The Task Timeline and Resource Timeline provide an excellent graphic representation of the project’s planned and actual schedules.

The timeline charts are preset to show two horizontal bars for each task, supertask, and milestone—a planned bar and an actual bar. When updating in the timelines, however, you may want to display only
the actual bars. To do this, use Preferences 
from the Edit menu.

When you change an actual bar for a task, the actual bars for all affected tasks also change. You can switch back to displaying both actual and planned bars to make comparisons.
